The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will alter the operation of ramp meters on westbound Interstate 90 in Liberty Lake starting Monday, September 28. The ramp meters, located at the Harvard Road and Liberty Lake Road on-ramps, will now activate during the morning commute only when traffic on the adjacent section of I-90 slows below 60 mph. This change is based on data from WSDOT’s in-field traffic monitoring stations.
The afternoon operation of the ramp meters will not change, continuing to function from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays. WSDOT traffic engineers will keep monitoring the performance of these meters and analyze traffic conditions to ensure optimal flow.
When the ramp meters are active, drivers must stop at the painted STOP bar and the STOP HERE ON RED sign, proceeding only when the signal turns green. In Liberty Lake, only one vehicle is allowed to proceed per green light.
These adjustments aim to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion on I-90.
