The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and the city of Chewelah have announced the completion of the US 395 paving and Complete Streets project. A public celebration, including a ribbon-cutting and boot-stomp ceremony, is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22, at Everett Jenne Memorial Park in Chewelah.
The $6.7 million project involved repaving approximately five miles of US 395 between Hafer Road and Sand Canyon Road. The improvements include new sidewalks, bike lanes, pedestrian crossings, and other safety features aimed at enhancing accessibility for all modes of transportation.
Community input played a significant role in shaping the Complete Streets improvements, with WSDOT and local partners collaborating to address the needs of residents. The project also involved drainage enhancements, rumble strips, and lighting upgrades within the city limits.
The event will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. and will feature remarks from project partners, and will provide an opportunity for community members to learn more about the enhancements.
