The U.S. Department of the Treasury approved Idaho's Opportunity Zone 2.0 nominations, which include a new designation for Post Falls. This designation will be effective starting January 1, 2027, and is intended to stimulate investment and expand economic opportunities within the community.

The designated Opportunity Zone covers areas such as the Pleasant View corridor, regions north of Interstate 90, and parts of the community south of the Spokane River. Those areas were chosen to include areas of existing businesses and developing areas.

Opportunity Zones are designed to attract private investment by offering federal tax incentives for eligible investments. Mayor Randy Westlund expressed enthusiasm about the designation.

"This is another tool we can use to encourage investment, create new opportunities and help build the infrastructure that supports a strong local economy," Westlund said.

The Opportunity Zone will also serve as a resource for property owners and businesses.
