Idaho Fish and Game has announced new regulations and updates for hunters and anglers in the state. From August 30 to December 31, 2026, the use of certain advanced technologies, such as thermal imaging, night vision, and drones, is prohibited for hunting or scouting deer, elk, and other game animals on public lands. Exceptions are made for hunting wolves and certain predatory wildlife, as well as for retrieving wounded animals and monitoring traps.
In response to lower-than-expected returns of natural-origin fish, Idaho Fish and Game has also modified the bag limits for fall Chinook and Steelhead fishing. Anglers are advised to check the latest regulations to ensure compliance with the new limits.
Additionally, Idaho anglers have set new state records for three lesser-known fish species: the redside shiner, Utah sucker, and tench.
